Introduction: Neonatal morbidity and mortality is one of the quality indicators of prenatal and perinatal care. It remains high across the world; more accentuated in the regions of South Asia and sub-Saharan Africa where the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is located. This study aims to study early neonatal morbidity and mortality at the neonatal care unit of the University Clinics of Lubumbashi. Materials and method: This is a cross-sectional descriptive study with a retrospective collection method carried out at CUL from January 1 to December 31, 2022 and which collected 145 cases of newborns admitted to the CUL NICU for a total of 1049 live births during the same period and in the same structure. Results: The analysis of the data collected showed that hospital neonatal morbidity was 13.82%. The male sex was more represented with a sex ratio of 1.91 and the frequent causes of morbidity were neonatal infection (53.10%), neonatal respiratory distress (46.90%), prematurity (40%). The average hospitalization stay was 3.63 ± 2.04 days with high mortality during the first 72 hours of hospitalization, i.e. 66.67% among admissions on the 3rd day of hospitalization coupled with significant early neonatal mortality (53.39%). The causes of mortality are ranked in descending order from prematurity (44.87%), DRNN (30.775%) and neonatal infection (19.23%). Depressed 5th minute APGAR and maternal household occupation were factors significantly associated with the risk of death among newborns admitted to the NICU (OR=3.81; 95% CI=1.65- 8.83 and p=0.001; OR=2.19; CI=1.10-4.33 and p=0.013). Conclusion: Early neonatal mortality is high in the CUL NICU. Reducing neonatal morbidity and mortality requires improving the quality of care at the first and second level of care as well as the referral system for newborns in our environment. We believe that a series of measures must be taken to improve local trends in neonatal morbidity and mortality and extend the experience to be acquired in several health facilities both in the Province and the country.

Introduction: Perinatal asphyxia (PA) is one of the reasons for the transfer of the newborn to neonatal resuscitation services. The objective of this work was to study the epidemiological, obstetrical, clinical and evolutionary aspects of PA at the Ziguinchor Peace Hospital. Materials and methods: This was a retrospective study of cases of hospitalized HAs during the period 1 December 2015 to 31 May 2017. The diagnosis of PA was based on an anomaly of the rhythm Fetal heart rate and / or amniotic fluid abnormality; A score of Apgar <7 at the 5th minute and / or the absence of an immediate cry at birth. We collected epidemiological, obstetric, clinical and evolutionary data. Results: We collected 153 cases of PA (90 boys and 63 girls) among 742 newborns, an incidence of 20.6% of neonatal hospitalizations. The mean age of mothers was 17.2 years; 82.0% of mothers were between 18 and 35 years of age and half (50.3%) had four or more NPCs. Anemia (37.0%), maternal infection (36.4%), h...

philémon Mulongo

CiririSummaryPurpose. — To determine factors associated with perinatal mortality to the Dr Rau hospital.Methods. — A case control study was conducted at Dr Rau hospital from January 1st to December31 2012 with a proportion of a case for two controls and 273 medical files have been exploited.A logistical regression permitted to identify factors associated with perinatal mortality. Caseswere stillbirths and early neonatal deaths. Controls were live newborns discharged from thehospital.Results. — Thirty-two perinatal deaths/1000 live births were registered. The main factors asso-ciated with perinatal mortality were maternal associated diseases, fetal hypotrophy, advancedmaternal age, prematurity and insufficient antenatal care (P < 0.05).Conclusion. — The struggle against the perinatal mortality passes by an organization of theprenatal consultations of quality and a follow-up brought closer of women in postpartum.

RESUME But.
