eBay opened the door to automatic positive feedback for sellers through a limited policy in the UK. eBay's system automatically leaves positive feedback for British sellers who have 10 feedback or less in cases where their buyer hasn't left feedback within 7 days of the estimated delivery date and hasn't reported an issue with their transaction.

A frequent commentor on the eBay discussion boards "a_c_green" saidthey noticed two unusual feedback comments left for a UK seller: "This seller successfully completed an order." ("That wording is bizarre," a_c_green wrote - "it conveys about the same enthusiasm as "This seller is a carbon-based life form.")

Next to the comment was displayed the designation "eBay automated feedback," the screenshot of the feedback shows.

"Wastingtime101" replied with a link to aneBay UK help pageexplaining the feature and wrote: "It appears to be a way to give new sellers an assist."

The eBay UK help page explains:

"We do this to provide more information to eBay users and help them buy and sell with confidence. Automated feedback from eBay will remain visible unless there are signals that the buyer's experience was less than positive e.g. the buyer opened a return, item wasn't received, or the order was canceled.

"Buyers can still leave feedback about their experience which replaces any automated feedback already left relating to the transaction."

Should eBay bring the feature to the US and Canada? And should it apply to all sellers, not just newbies? Let us know what you think.

Well, now that Ebay is "Fixing" the Feedback problem here in the States, it really shows. In the last 48 hours 5 Buyers have left me Positive Feedback and it still has never been counted. I seriously doubt I am the only one, on Ebay worldwide, where this is occurring so basically the feedback system for the last 6 years (maybe more) is all inaccurate and nonsense.

I wonder if Buyers looking for items such as mine (as well as others) do not see items as it appears as if the whole Ebay site from time time has a function or two that fails to work properly.....Wait a minute, that problem is already ongoing - Who'd have thunk?

If eBay continues to see value in their feedback system, positives should be automatically left for all sellers when transactions have been completed in a timely and issue free manner and seven to ten days has elapsed from the delivery date.

As they see fit, buyers should still be able to replace any automated feedback with their own comment(s).

For sellers using automated buyer feedback systems, eBay automated buyer feedback for sellers would greatly simplify the process.

An ‘automated FB’ process that seeks to credit a seller for a completed transaction where no other FB is forthcoming (according to rule, in this case a clock) is at best a Neutral outcome. That’s why the wording in the example is so ‘vanilla’. That’s all it can be.

Declaring it ‘positive’ (or even Neutral) as actual FB however, is inaccurate and dilutes the ‘real’ FB actually left, even if it is identified as an AI action that can be overridden. (They got that part right at least).

Given that any ‘positivity’ is already implied in the completion not commented otherwise, the occasion actually reflects no more than a transaction count.

So if eBay DOES value accuracy in FB (jury still out on that), keep the FB count as it is, reflecting actual endorsem*nts (or otherwise), leave AI out of it, and add a ‘Total transaction count’ to include all those with real FB plus all those completed and otherwise ‘uncredited’ as evidence of a ‘successful’ seller effort by lack of actual FB.

Why would Mercari do this and not eBay Because Mercari realizes they would make zero dollars without sellers. Someone should remind the Walmart dope running eBay of this.

@Shanna
From Mercari:
The Buyer has 3 calendar days (72 hours) to provide the item to the designated shipping carrier and 7 days (168 hours) for the acceptance scan to allow for weekend or holiday drop-off, or the return may be voided.

And it is important to remember there still are those pesky Chargebacks if a buyer feels like going that

direction.

I can count on one hand the amount of time a seller's feedback has influenced my decision to buy from them. Now, with Ebay-generated feedback, it'll be less of an issue.
When I cared about feedback, I was always getting buyers threatening me with negative feedback. I sold 9 sportscards to one guy. One of them wasn't up to his specifications. @my2cents,

As long as the item shows as delivered, Mercari covers chargebacks. The buyer agrees to the terms of service as well, doing a chargeback without initiating a return gets your account banned. Something else eBay should be doing.

I don't read the policy that way in regards to Mercari covering the Chargeback if the item shows delivered. INR isn't the only reason to file a chargeback.

But I got to say, I really like their stance on a buyer not filing a claim inside of Mercari first and jumping to the Chargeback.
