In the dynamic world of anime, characters come in all shapes and sizes. From tiny, chibi-style creatures to towering giants, there is no shortage of diversity when it comes to anime characters. However, when it comes to height, certain characters stand head and shoulders above the rest.

In this world of fantasy and imagination, some reach towering heights that defy human limits. These tall anime characters not only stand out because of how they look but also because of how big and strong they are. From gentle giants to fierce behemoths, the tallest anime characters have a certain allure that is impossible to ignore.

Unlike live-action movies, films, and TV series, where directors are forced to account for budget constraints to create larger-than-life shots, whether through stunts or CGI, anime doesn't have that problem. Most anime are based on manga, which are essentially comic books that can convincingly integrate a cosmic entity into their story without a second thought. The question of the tallest characters in anime is not what's within the realm of possibility; it's what's within the realm of imagination. Three new extremely tall anime characters have been added to the list.

27 Jason Silver

2.1 Meters (6'11")

Giants and other fantastical creatures are the largest characters in anime. There are, however, examples of normal-sized people who are very tall. A good illustration of this is Jason Silver, a basketball player from the Kuroko’s Basketball anime movie. Basketball player Jason Silver, who is over 6 feet tall (about 1.8 meters), exploits his height to his advantage.

Despite his size, Silver is exceptionally agile, making him an opponent not many basketball players want to square off against. In Kuroko’s Basketball anime movie, Silver played for Jabberwock and faced off against the Generation of Miracles, overpowering some of them.

26 Piccolo

2.26 Meters (7'5")

The son of the Demon King serves as the final antagonist of Dragon Ball before the existence of the Saiyans came to light. Piccolo Jr. was still a villain at heart, but Gohan's tender nature helped him see the light and become a member of the Z Warriors. The Namekian is pretty tall in his base form and dwarfs most of the fighters in the show.

He also has the ability to increase his size, as seen in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. This enhances his height even more, but this form is used so sparingly that it's better to take Piccolo's height as is instead of taking his kaiju form into account. With the advent of the Orange Piccolo form, fans can't wait to see their favorite fighter and one of the tallest anime characters around tackle tougher foes without breaking a sweat.

25 Ryuk

2.3 Meters (7'6")

The Death Note anime and manga series has received many awards for the incredible story it weaves between Light Yagami, the genius detective L, and Ryuk, the owner of The Death Note. Throughout the story, Ryuk plays the role of a background character who watches what Light does with the Death Note. While most humans cannot see Ryuk, at 2.3 meters (7' 6"), Ryuk towers over most humans and is considered tall for a Shinigami.

Ryuk’s boredom was what made him come to the human world with a Death Note, as, unlike most Shinigami, he didn’t want to simply pass time in the underworld. Coming into the human world and revealing himself to Light, the finder of the Death Note, Ryuk’s aura and imposing stature cemented his status as a Shinigami in Light’s mind.

24 Thorkell

2.3 Meters (7'7")

The former Jomsviking commander with the moniker Thorkell the Tall lives up to his reputation. Thorkell towers above everybody he meets, both in terms of height and physique. Many people who face Thorkell are terrified by his height of 2.3 meters (7' 7").

It would be reasonable to assume that Thorkell, with his great height, would be slow-moving. Thorkell is a powerful and swift fighter with a passion for blood. He is renowned as an "invincible" Viking who had no fear in the face of danger. Thorkell is a man of good humor and good times, but he was born to fight. For amusement, he engages in battle with powerful foes, killing them with dignity.

23 Rem

2.43 Meters (8'0")

While there are various shinigami in Death Note, most fans only know of Ryuk, the shinigami that gave Light the Death Note. However, in the 37th episode, a shinigami named Rem is introduced. She gives Misa a death note after another shinigami sacrifices his life to prevent Misa’s supposed death.

As shinigami, Rem and Ryuk are total opposites. While Ryuk was always unbothered by Light’s decisions as long as he got apples, Rem was very interested in Misa’s life and ended up dying as a means to save her. As a shinigami, Ryuk is much more well-known than Rem; however, in matters of height, Rem comes out on top.

22 Broly

3 Meters (9'10")

The Dragon Ball franchise is quite popular and has portrayed its incredible Saiyans as one of the most powerful races in the universe. Of the many Saiyans, Broly stands out as one of the most powerful in the multiverse. Right from his birth, important figures such as King Vegeta had already seen his potential to become a domineering figure, and Broly did.

In his base form, Broly stands at around 2.39 meters (7 '10"); however, in his legendary Super Saiyan form, Broly stands at a towering 3 meters (9' 10"). In terms of height, Broly dwarfs Goku by more than a bit, and he stands as one of Universe 7’s most legendary warriors. Despite his talent for battle and carnage, Broly is a relatively peaceful man who only fights for his friends, family, and honor.

21 Escanor

3.2 Meters (10'6")

The lion sin of pride, Escanor, is a member of the Seven Deadly Sins, an order of Holy Knights in the Kingdom of Liones. With his power Sunshine, Escanor’s power grows with the sun, making the peak of his power at noon while leaving him frail at night.

Escanor, in his weakest form, can only reach a height of 1.6 meters (5' 3"). However, Escanor reaches a towering 3.2 meters (10' 6") in height around midday, when his strength is at its highest. Because of this, he now towers over his competition. Escanor's powers alter not only his physical appearance but also his character. At night, Escanor is submissive and fidgety, but during the day, he is domineering and proud.

20 Whitebeard

6.66 Meters (21'10")

The captain of the Whitebeard Pirates, Edward Newgate, certainly left his mark on the world alongside the likes of Gol D. Roger. With his gigantic frame of 6.66 meters (21' 10"), Whitebeard was an imposing man in ability and stature. Whitebeard was dubbed the strongest man in the world, and with his bounty of 5,046,000,000 berries, he certainly deserved that title.

Even in his old age, Whitebeard faced the Marines in a war over Portgas D. Ace, and the Marines cowered at his power. In the end, Whitebeard was killed by Marshall D. Teach, but his legacy remains forever standing tall, as he did throughout his life. In terms of height, normal humans like Luffy and Garp look like children next to Whitebeard. Even in a world where giant creatures are out and about, the pirate captain remained among the greats.

19 Diane

9 Meters (29'6")

Diane is a 9-meter giant (29' 6") and a member of the Seven Deadly Sins from the anime series of the same name. She is the Serpent's Sin of Envy and uses a large war hammer in conjunction with her enormous size to mow down smaller and similarly large enemies.

As a member of the giant clan, she is much bigger than other characters portrayed in the series. Diane shrinks down to a more manageable 1.6 meters (5' 3") in height when she needs to navigate tight quarters that would otherwise be impossible due to her towering stature.

18 Jidanbo Ikkanzaka (Bleach)

9.88 meters (32'5")

Jidanbo is one of the tallest characters in all of Bleach, towering over Ichigo when he faces off against him while trying to barge into Soul Society. Jidanbo stands tall and refuses Ichigo entry, forcing him to face him in combat instead. This battle, while not the most memorable battle in Bleach, was still a spectacle to witness, as it was the first time viewers saw a sheer difference in the size of scale between two characters locked in a fight. One, a measly 1.81 meters (5'11") tall, the other a gigantic 9.88 meters (32'5") behemoth breathing down on him.

Of course, later on, Ichigo and the gang fought against the Menos, which were extremely tall Hollows, but none of them were characters in the true sense of the word, just mindless zombie-like creatures looking for a quick snack. Jidanbo also has three other counterparts who guard the other gates leading into Soul Society, but none of them are as tall as him. He also has a brother, Jirobo Ikkanzaka, who is the former 4th seat of the 7th Division, but he is significantly shorter than him, only coming in at around 7'7".

17 Neptune

12.1 Meters (38'8")

King Neptune, the merman who rules Fishman Island, is a big guy. At a height of 12.1 meters (38' 8"), Neptune is significantly taller than most fishmen and stands as one of the tallest One Piece characters. Neptune's regal stature as king is reflected in the way he carries himself despite his massive size.

Neptune, despite his 'royal bearing,' can be blunt and casual. He is extremely protective of his daughter and will even try to attack a Celestial Dragon if necessary. Like any good monarch, Neptune wants the best for his subjects. After the death of his wife, Otohime, he has made it his mission to bring the fishmen on land, where they will be more readily accepted by society.

16 Great Ape

At Least 15 Meters (50 Feet)

For the longest time, Goku had no idea why he had a monkey's tail or could transform into a giant ape during a full moon. All these revelations come in Dragon Ball Z when it's revealed that the beloved fighter hails from an alien warrior race called the Saiyans, all of whom can transform into a massive Great Ape to heighten their powers.

The form is used by Vegeta to get the upper hand on Goku after the upstart lower-race warrior one-ups him time and time again. The height difference makes it clear that any Saiyan accessing this form becomes one of the tallest anime characters that can unleash a world of hurt upon their opponent.

15 Beast Titan

17 Meters (55'9")

The debut of the Beast Titan struck fear in the hearts of viewers, with this titan being able to form coherent words and terrorize the people of Paradis Island with his long-range attacks. This titan was controlled by Zeke Jaeger and is easily one of the tallest anime characters in Attack on Titan.

People who feared the Beast Titan were in for a celebration (albeit one made possible with numerous sacrifices) when Levi used multiple titans to close the distance and cut the Beast Titan's nape, capturing Zeke in one of the bloodiest confrontations in the series. This victory rings hollow given that Pieck was able to retrieve Zeke, but none of this mattered after the time skip when the true antagonist of the series came to light.

14 Vaccine Man

18 Meters (59'1")

Like many other villains in One Punch Man, Vaccine Man was ended after a single of Saitama’s punches; however, he managed to leave his mark in the minds of fans with his phenomenal figure. According to Vaccine Man, he was created from Earth to respond to the pollution that plagued the planet. He then decided to wipe out humans as the vaccine for their pollution, hence the name.

As a dragon-level threat, Vaccine Man had many abilities, including transformation, which allowed him to grow dramatically in size, adopting deadly claws and teeth. With this transformation, Vaccine Man grew from his normal 6' 6¾ height, up to 59' 0¾". This increase in size made him taller than many villains; however, his increased height and strength still failed to trample Saitama.

13 Mt. Lady

20.6 Meters (67'7")

Mt. Lady is a hero from My Hero Academia who has the power of gigantification as her quirk. As a result of her peculiarity, she can expand from her average height of 1.6 meters (5' 3") to a whopping 20.6 meters (67' 7"). She towers over most anime characters at that height.

As a pro hero, Mt. Lady is extremely useful, as her quirk allows her to quickly subdue smaller enemies. She can't change her height to anything between her maximum and minimum, which severely limits her mobility in confined settings.

12 Dorry

22.6 Meters (74'2")

As a member of the giant race, Dorry is undoubtedly one of the biggest and tallest characters in One Piece. Despite One Piece’s plethora of tall characters, Dorry still stands among the tallest, showing just how large the giant is.

As a fellow captain of the Giant Warrior Pirates, Dorry was introduced early on in One Piece. During the Little Garden arc, Dorry came across the Straw Hat pirates and befriended Luffy, who learned of his duels with Broggy, the other captain of the Giant Warrior Pirates. As a warrior from Elbaf, Dorry is deeply respected by the Straw Hats, especially by Luffy and Usopp, who find his duel with Broggy honorable. Long after his portrayal in Little Garden, Dorry has made a reappearance in the Egghead arc, making fans excited for his return to One Piece.

11 Gigantomachia

25 Meters (82'0")

With her quirk activated, Mt. Lady stands among the tallest characters in My Hero Academia and the anime world as a whole; however, even with her gigantic frame, she loses out to Gigantomachia, All For One’s loyal subordinate and bodyguard.

Standing at 25 meters (82' 0"), Gigantomachia’s frame puts many to shame, and his strength corresponds to his height. With his quirk Gigantification, Gigantomachia can grow beyond 25 meters, depending on how much he is agitated or excited. Apart from his towering height, Gigantomachia has quirks that dampen the pain he feels and the energy he burns through while increasing his endurance, making him more of a menace to his adversaries.

10 Colossal Titan

60 Meters (197 Feet)

The colossal titan from the Attack on Titan anime series truly deserves its moniker, Colossal. Standing at 60 meters (197 feet), the titan serves as a force of destruction. The titan's power grows with its size, but the trade-off is a decrease in its agility.

The Colossal Titan's spectacular transformation and heated steam more than makeup for its sluggish movement. The detonation of the inheritor's stored energy during the transformation into the Colossal Titan is analogous to a small nuclear blast due to the immense amount of energy required for the transformation.

9 Hatcha

66.8 Meters (219 Feet)

A race of scientifically engineered giants known as the Numbers lives in the piracy universe of One Piece. The Numbers are disproportionately huge humans with animal characteristics that serve as pirates for the Beast pirates. Hatcha, one of the Numbers, is a gigantic beast of 66.8 meters (219 feet) in height and is one of the tallest characters in One Piece. Big Mom (8.56 m) and the other giants in One Piece seem puny in comparison to him.

Hatcha's huge frame gives him an advantage when using his massive spiked club. Hatcha, like all giants, can expect a long life span as a result of his gigantification. Hatcha loves to drink, and he has a unique laughter that plays off his name.

8 Oars

67 Meters (220 Feet)

The ancient giant Oars appears in the One Piece world far before Luffy's time. In the anime's Thriller Bark arc, he played a villainous role and was ultimately resurrected from the dead by Gecko Moria. Oars' immense bulk was on full display in the Thriller Bark arc, where he demonstrated his ability to intimidate even other giants.

Because of his massive frame, Oars is so powerful that he can smash most objects with a single swing of his arm. Standing at a height of 67 meters (220 feet), Oars is colossal even among colossal figures.
